It is not simple to be a parent. At least a responsible and caring one. You want to be sure that your baby is progressing smoothly and there are no big issues. So to make it simple for you (and them), medical professionals introduced milestones. To me, they just seem stones. Big, rocky stones that you can't see beyond. You are just approaching them with different speeds and wonder if you're about to hit them or avoid them.

And since mankind is time-dependent, important milestones are set at predictable ages. 1 year old baby is taken for some regular medical examaniation and testing. Since Lan had allergies before, important part of testing was about allergies. Are they still present? Increasing, decreasing? More allergies or are we lucky to stick with the egg only?

Wow, good parents we were. As it was diagnosed by "the specialist", we were careful enough. Egg allergy was the only one found and still present, but his skin was improving. So he didn't look like he needed more tests. And since these were quite good results, we could start introducing more foods, milk and gluten included.

My son, some 3 years later
Now this was one of the most important turning points of our lives, but at that moment in time, we just could not feel it. There was a specialist in allergies. MD that was told to be one of the best in the country. And it looked like she knew her business. On the other side, we as ordinary parents were amateurs.

We listened carefully and moved on as we were told to. Because, who are we to really know about all the food things? And we were doing a great job as it seemed. Allergies were reducing, skin was getting better. Overall, food that Lan was eating, was really the best (all bio, natural, diverse food with plenty of good fruits and vegetables and so).

As planned my medical pro's, we started introducing bread, milk and the all-kids-beloved flakes variants in his food. Gluten and casein were gradually and strongly increasing. All the time we were just watching out if there is any special skin reaction related to any food or combination of foods.

Looking from any aspect of it, we were great at doing what we did. Really no margin for error. So it seemed to any medical professional. And to most of the regular folks.

Except, we just couldn't have noticed that inside that little body, bio-chemical disaster was ready to strike out. Now that's where we started feeling the change in our lives. Where we started learning the truth behind gluten and casein.
